Friday Funday – Traditional Wedding Favorites

Does it seem like there have been lots of weddings over the last few weeks?

Whether you’ve heard wedding bells or not yet this season, get ready for more to be ringing soon, because as of June 21, summer is officially here, and wedding season is too!

Summer is always the most popular time of the year for weddings. Even though here in Florida, it may feel like summertime nearly year-round, and it’s especially warm and sunny right now in late June, and into July, August and early September, summer is always the time of year when there’s the most weddings, and this year, we can’t wait.

When it comes to most weddings, when there’s a wedding, there’s flowers, and often, many different varieties – both when it comes to the type, kind and textures used in floral designs – and the actual variety of designs themselves, such as bouquets, backdrops, arches, centerpieces and many more – that represent important or favorite colors, textures or feelings to the happy couple, or perhaps matching the vibe of their venue, or a theme for their special day.

Today, there are countless trends within and themes for weddings and wedding flowers, and they each are unique, and can make for a magnificent wedding day.

Just as no two couples are exactly alike, generally, no two weddings are alike, either, but when looking at specific themes or styles, they can be similar, but special for each set of newlyweds.

Over the next few weeks, join us each Friday here on the blog, where we will showcase a few fantastic designs within a specific theme or style of wedding!

With weddings, there’s plenty of time-honored traditions, and for week one, we will begin with some traditional designs. 👰🤵

Today, practically any location can serve as a wedding venue, but decades ago, most weddings were performed in churches, and if that’s where you or your clients have chosen to host an upcoming wedding, don’t miss this décor!

Crafted and designed by Piney Rose Flowers of Texas, the décor for this classic and romantic church ceremony puts a modern twist on a traditional wedding motif throughout each piece.

Eucalyptus might be a modern floral trend, but it is a great way to design for a traditional ceremony, like the pew markers, chandelier hanger, decorative accents with flowers for the cross, and even some small pieces to adorn the candles on the wall pedestals.

Plus, we’re sure the bridal bouquet, corsages and boutonnieres, if the couple had them, looked just as outstanding.

Flowers: Ranunculus, Hydrangea — and Greenery!
Greenery: Silver Dollar Eucalyptus, Seeded Eucalyptus, Baby Blue Eucalyptus

How about flowers for both the ceremony, and reception? Here’s a great example on how to maximize the beauty of your beautiful wedding flowers!

We love these small, simple designs, crafted by Olivia Schoen of Radiant Floral, a wedding and event florist in Wisconsin, that incorporate some pretty flowers, and greenery, into designs that were made to look fabulous for both the ceremony and reception from a wedding this year.

Beautiful Stock, Lisianthus and a touch of blue wildflowers are paired with flowy Silver Dollar Eucalyptus and a stem of crisp Israeli Ruscus, hand-tied together with ribbon for beautiful pew markers for a church ceremony, that were then used at a banquet hall reception, paired with sparkling glass candle votives, for beautiful table centerpieces.

A great way to get the most of your wedding floral designs — and to flower on a budget!

For a beautiful bride, all you need is a beautiful wedding dress, plus pretty flowers and a new pair of shoes — right?

Okay, you might need a little more for the most special wedding day, but a dress, some pretty flowers and a new pair of shoes are a great place to start though, like the pairing seen here, with beautiful pearled flats, plus Peonies!

Summer means Peony season, and as the feeling of “summer” began earlier this year, those fresh white Peonies, paired with Sword Fern and Israeli Ruscus greenery, all wrapped together were perfect for a touch of summer inspiration for a spring wedding.

Like its designer, Rachel Fortune, of Tildy Floral Designs in North Carolina, says, shoes and blooms, what really could be better!?

Lastly, we saw some Eucalyptus as a modern twist for traditional style ceremony decor, but as many floral designers and enthusiasts know today, it looks amazing in bouquets, too!

When it comes to bridal bouquets, they can be as simple or as intricate as the bride desires, and nowadays, paired with the perfect mix of greenery, white as a wedding color looks spectacular at traditional style weddings, like this bouquet.

Shared with us by Hofland, a floral wholesaler in Canada, this bouquet, made with shades of white and green within the flowers and greenery, includes more of a summer favorite, Peonies, in addition to soft and plump white Roses, Lisianthus and Hydrangea, surrounded by plenty of fresh Seeded Eucalyptus, Salal and Italian Ruscus.

For weddings, remember, don’t just say yes to the dress, but also to the flowers!
